Death & I (Otieno Kajwang's Eulogy - RIP)

When death comes
I’ll need not love –
Consumed,
No wreath or dove
Could offer me salvation,
Not when I’m no more.

A weathered stone will bear my name –
Identity of once a being
Living out existence in
A world of risk, and never seeing
Sense of why we’re here.

My genes will die away thro’ child –
Hue of eyes and hair, the way of thought,
Will quickly dim with generation –
Bow to future dominance –
Memories of provenance
Resigned to curious few.

When death comes
I’ll need not grace
Below; no grieving face
Will call my resurrection,
Not when I’m at ground –

Death and I so bound.

Terror within Peace

I sense everyone’s eyes on ME,
Instead, I look down upon MYSELF,
Forgetting no opinion matters but I,
My decision to look to you,
Infused, within me, terror of THEM,
Doing nothing, to calm my heart

Astoundingly, remorse seemed to vanish,
Converted to a renewed determination,
It was all rather inevitable,
Bound to happen they say,
Silver lining, through the dark

Reality is too vivid,
Dangerous clouds forming over,
Abruptly, for a millisecond,
I look at THEM!

I see nothing;
Absolutely Nothing, Fear
Starts creeping back…

Glassy eyes,
Worry, Fatigue

Peace!

MY BEST FRIEND

When I think of friends I have ever had
Your name comes first in my head
And smiles all over my face
Flashing back all the good memories we’ve had.

You’ve made me appreciate lots of things in life
You’ve made learn new things
You’ve made me see love in a different way
You make me smile each and every day.

Though you tease me at times
You are still the best.
Though I annoy you at times
You are still there to correct me.

Am writing this poem for you
Because you inspired me to write
I know you are far away from me to say this in person
But hope you get to read this.

Always know I will appreciate you as my best friend.
